Allergens & Dust Buildup

Excess dust, pet dander, and pollen circulating through your home trigger allergies and make it harder to breathe comfortably. We install upgraded whole-home filtration (4-inch to 5-inch MERV 13 media cabinets), seal leaky ductwork, and add air purification where it’s needed. A deep filter cabinet also protects your equipment — most airflow problems we diagnose start at a clogged one-inch filter.

Poor Airflow & Humidity

Uneven airflow and improper humidity make rooms feel stuffy, damp, or overly dry, and they wear equipment out early. We correct duct design, balance airflow, measure static pressure, and add whole-home humidifiers or dehumidifiers where the numbers justify it.

Mold & Mildew

Too much moisture leads to mold growth, musty smells, and unhealthy conditions — an ongoing issue in Pacific Northwest homes, especially those with crawlspaces and older windows. Whole-home dehumidifiers, correct equipment sizing, drainage corrections, and balanced airflow control moisture before mold takes hold.

Odors, Smoke & Lingering Smells

Cooking odors, pet smells, wildfire smoke, and stale air get trapped without proper filtration and ventilation. Advanced filtration, UV and photocatalytic purification, and fresh-air ventilation systems (ERVs and HRVs) remove contaminants and continuously refresh indoor air.

Indoor Air Quality FAQs

What’s the single best upgrade for wildfire smoke? A properly sized 4-inch MERV 13 media cabinet on the return, run with the fan in circulate mode during smoke events. It’s inexpensive, it doesn’t strangle airflow the way a one-inch MERV 13 does, and it removes the fine particulate that causes the headaches and sore throats.

Will a better filter hurt my system? Only if it’s the wrong kind. High-MERV one-inch filters restrict airflow badly. A deep media cabinet gives you the same filtration with far lower pressure drop. We measure static pressure before and after so it’s not a guess.

Do I need a dehumidifier in Western Washington? Sometimes. Winter indoor humidity above 55–60% in a home with crawlspace moisture or a finished basement causes condensation, musty odors, and mold. We measure before recommending anything — often the real fix is crawlspace vapor barrier and ventilation, not equipment.

How often should I change my filter? One-inch filters: every 30–90 days. Four-inch media: every 6–12 months. If you have pets or run the fan continuously, shorten it.

Are UV lights worth it? For keeping the evaporator coil and drain pan clean, yes — that’s a documented, mechanical benefit. Claims about whole-house air sterilization are overstated. We’ll tell you which one you’re buying.

What about ventilation in a new or tightly sealed home? Washington’s energy code requires whole-house ventilation in new construction for good reason. An ERV brings in filtered outdoor air while recovering most of the heat, so you get fresh air without the energy penalty.

Does duct cleaning help? Occasionally — after construction, a rodent problem, or a fire. As a routine service it’s oversold. Sealing leaky ducts and improving filtration delivers far more measurable benefit.
