They’re compact, ultra quiet and highly efficient, which makes them ideal for additions, garages, older homes and the rooms that never seem to stay comfortable. Whether you need one room handled or several zones across the house, ductless heat pumps offer flexible, energy smart comfort built for the Pacific Northwest.
We’re a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer, which means factory level training on design, installation and diagnostics and extended warranty coverage on qualifying systems.
Why Choose a Ductless System
- Eliminate hot and cold spots with room by room temperature control
- Ideal for homes with no existing ductwork common in older Tacoma, Ruston and Gig Harbor houses
- Perfect for renovations where extending ductwork isn’t practical
- Great for garage conversions, ADUs, additions and bonus rooms over garages
- High efficiency: ductless heat pumps can cut heating bills by up to 40% versus electric baseboard
- Quiet operation indoor heads run around 19 25 dB on low
- Qualifies for PSE rebates up to $2,400 on zonal electric to ductless conversions
System Performance Levels
The type you choose affects comfort, efficiency and noise.
Single Stage
A single stage system operates at one fixed speed fully on or completely off. Dependable and budget friendly, but it creates more noticeable temperature swings and runs louder.
Two Stage
A two stage system runs on low or high output. Most of the time it runs low, which maintains steadier temperatures and improves efficiency; when outdoor temperatures drop it shifts to high. Quieter and more consistent than single stage.
Variable Speed (Inverter Driven)
Variable speed systems adjust output in small increments rather than just high or low. That means precise temperature control, even comfort, quiet operation and the highest efficiency available. Nearly every ductless system we install today is inverter driven it’s the whole reason the technology works so well.
High Performance Ductless Heat Pump Brands
- Mitsubishi Electric our primary line. M Series and Hyper Heating H2i models maintain full heating capacity at 5°F and produce usable heat below 0°F. Wall mounted, floor mounted, ceiling cassette and slim ducted air handler options.
- Daikin Aurora and Emura series, strong multi zone flexibility and a well regarded VRV platform for larger homes and light commercial work.
- Trane / Ameristar ductless solid mid tier single and multi zone systems with widely available parts.
- Goodman ductless value option for garages, shops and secondary spaces.
- Rheem and Carrier ductless available on request or to match existing equipment.
Where Ductless Works Best
- Second floor bedrooms that bake in summer
- 1920s 1940s homes with radiant or baseboard heat and no ducts
- Garage conversions, workshops and detached studios
- ADUs and mother in law units that need their own thermostat
- Additions where extending the main system would starve the rest of the house
- Rooms over garages and above unconditioned crawlspaces
Typical Timeline & What Installation Looks Like
A single zone system is typically a one day install. Multi zone systems (two to five heads) run two to three days. We core a three inch penetration through the wall, run the line set in a paintable exterior line hide rather than leaving it exposed, mount the outdoor unit on a pad or wall bracket, pull a deep vacuum, verify charge and configure the controls with you.
Warranty
Mitsubishi systems installed by a Diamond Dealer carry up to a 12 year parts and compressor warranty with registration. Other brands carry 10 years. Our workmanship is guaranteed for life.

Ductless Mini Split FAQs
How many indoor heads do I need? One per space you want independently controlled. Open plan main floors often need only one properly sized head; bedrooms down a hallway each need their own. We walk the house and map it out rather than selling you a bigger multi zone than you need.
Do mini splits heat well in winter here? Yes. Standard models hold capacity into the 20s and Hyper Heating models are rated to produce full heat at 5°F. South Sound winters are well within range.
How long does installation take? One day for a single zone, two to three days for multi zone systems. We do most of the work outside and keep interior disruption to the mounting wall.
Are they loud? The indoor head is quieter than most refrigerators. The outdoor unit is audible but far quieter than a traditional AC condenser usually a non issue even in tight Ruston or North Tacoma side yards.
How much can they save me? If you’re replacing electric baseboard or wall heaters, expect a substantial drop in winter electric costs up to about 40% plus you gain cooling you didn’t have. PSE’s $2,400 zonal electric conversion rebate applies to exactly this scenario.
What maintenance do they need? Rinse or wash the indoor filters monthly and have the coils and blower wheel professionally cleaned annually. Ductless indoor units grow mildew on the blower wheel if they’re ignored that’s the main thing our maintenance membership prevents.
Can one outdoor unit run multiple rooms? Yes, multi zone condensers support two to eight indoor heads. There’s a tradeoff: multi zone systems are slightly less efficient at part load than separate single zone systems, so we compare both when it’s a close call.

What Our Customers Say
“the owner and GreenFlow are the GOAT. We were renovating our home and I met with countless HVAC installers. Only the owner was genuinely excited to creatively problem solve for the challenges our house presented. We didn’t get some cookie cutter system… Our inspector said it was one of the nicest residential installs he had seen.”
David Sosnow
“the owner was incredibly thorough in helping us choose the right HVAC system for our home… We ended up with a whole house heat pump that’s been working perfectly. The owner also walked us through how to use it efficiently and followed up afterward. The warranty he provided was excellent too.”
