Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Residential Rebates

If PSE serves your electric or natural gas at your address, these are the current 2026 residential heat pump rebates. PSE now requires installation by a PSE Trade Ally or Registered Energy Professional (REP). Non-network installers disqualify the rebate.

Heat pump conversion (from electric resistance heat)

• $1,500 standard rebate replacing electric baseboards, wall heaters, or an electric furnace with a qualifying air source or ductless heat pump [PSE program page]
• $2,400 Efficiency Boost rebate, based on household income (up to 80% of area median income) [PSE Efficiency Boost]

Hybrid heat pump (gas furnace + heat pump)

• $1,500 standard rebate converting a natural gas furnace to a hybrid heating system (heat pump paired with the existing or new gas furnace) [PSE hybrid heat pump]
• $2,400 Efficiency Boost rebate, based on household income [PSE hybrid Boost]
• Requires an existing PSE natural gas furnace as the primary heat source. Electric-only and existing heat pump homes are not eligible.

Gas to heat pump conversion (income-qualified)

• $4,000 rebate for income-qualified PSE customers replacing a natural gas heating system with a qualifying air source heat pump [PSE moderate-income]

Heat pump to heat pump upgrade

• $1,500 standard rebate installing a high efficiency heat pump to replace an existing ducted heat pump [PSE heat pump upgrade]
• $2,400 Efficiency Boost rebate, based on household income (ductless not eligible for this program) [PSE upgrade Boost]

Smart thermostats and water heating

• $75 qualifying ENERGY STAR smart thermostat ($175 Efficiency Boost, income-qualified) [PSE smart thermostat]
• $1,000 qualifying Tier 3 or Tier 4 heat pump water heater ($1,100 Efficiency Boost); available to PSE electric customers, single family homes only [PSE heat pump water heater]

Tacoma Public Utilities (Tacoma Power) Residential Rebates

If Tacoma Power serves your electric at your address (most of Tacoma, Ruston, University Place, Fircrest, parts of Fife and Federal Way), these are current 2026 residential heat pump rebates. Installation must be by a Tacoma Power Participating Contractor and the home must have electric as the primary heat source.

Existing zonal or electric forced air heat

• $1,000 ductless heat pump (up to 4 units) [TPU heat pump program]
• $650 ductless heat pump (5+ units) [TPU heat pump program]
• $1,000 air source heat pump [TPU heat pump program]
• $2,000 variable speed heat pump replacing an electric forced air furnace [TPU heat pump program]

Existing non-electric heat (limited eligibility)

• $1,000 variable speed heat pump (non-electric existing heat) [TPU heat pump program]

Tacoma Power also offers 0% interest loans for some qualifying heat pump conversions: up to $4,000 for a ductless heat pump and up to $10,000 for a central heat pump. Ask us to walk through whether a loan or a rebate is the better option for your project.

Other Programs Worth Checking

• PSE Multifamily rebates apply to buildings of 5 or more attached units (different application than single family)
• Income-qualified programs (Efficiency Boost, HEAR when funded) can stack materially more per project
• Manufacturer promotions from American Standard and Mitsubishi Electric run seasonally and are separate from utility programs
• PSE manufactured/mobile home rebates run higher than single-family standard amounts. Ask if you live in one.
