Indoor Air Quality Services in Tacoma & Pierce County
Breathe cleaner. Live better. Call or text 253 370 8641 to schedule an indoor air quality evaluation.
Why Indoor Air Quality Matters
- People spend about 90% of their time indoors
- Tighter, more energy efficient construction makes air quality worse if ventilation isn’t addressed
- Over 60 million people in the U.S. deal with asthma or allergies and are especially sensitive to indoor pollutants
- Children inhale 50% more air per pound of body weight than adults
In the South Sound we add two local factors: a long damp season that drives mold and dust mites and a wildfire smoke season that now shows up most Augusts.
Problems We Solve
Allergens & Dust Buildup
Excess dust, pet dander and pollen circulating through your home trigger allergies and make it harder to breathe comfortably. We install upgraded whole home filtration (4 inch to 5 inch MERV 13 media cabinets), seal leaky ductwork and add air purification where it’s needed. A deep filter cabinet also protects your equipment most airflow problems we diagnose start at a clogged one inch filter.
Poor Airflow & Humidity
Uneven airflow and improper humidity make rooms feel stuffy, damp, or overly dry and they wear equipment out early. We correct duct design, balance airflow, measure static pressure and add whole home humidifiers or dehumidifiers where the numbers justify it.
Mold & Mildew
Too much moisture leads to mold growth, musty smells and unhealthy conditions an ongoing issue in Pacific Northwest homes, especially those with crawlspaces and older windows. Whole home dehumidifiers, correct equipment sizing, drainage corrections and balanced airflow control moisture before mold takes hold.
Odors, Smoke & Lingering Smells
Cooking odors, pet smells, wildfire smoke and stale air get trapped without proper filtration and ventilation. Advanced filtration, UV and photocatalytic purification and fresh air ventilation systems (ERVs and HRVs) remove contaminants and continuously refresh indoor air.
Solutions We Install
- Whole home media filtration 4″/5″ MERV 13 cabinets that outperform disposable one inch filters without choking airflow
- HEPA bypass and electronic air cleaners for allergy and asthma households
- UV germicidal lamps at the coil to keep biological growth off the evaporator
- ERVs and HRVs balanced fresh air ventilation for tight new construction and remodels, the right answer for custom homes
- Whole home dehumidifiers for damp crawlspace over basement homes and finished basements
- Whole home humidifiers for homes that get uncomfortably dry when the furnace runs hard
- Duct sealing and repair, plus duct design corrections
- Smart IAQ monitors that track particulates, humidity, CO2 and VOCs
Equipment We Install
- AprilAire: whole-home humidifiers, dehumidifiers, and media air cleaners
- Broan: HRV/ERV ventilation systems
- iWave: needlepoint bipolar ionization air purifiers
- Honeywell: media filtration and UV air purifiers
- Service and consult on any major IAQ brand
Indoor Air Quality FAQs
What’s the single best upgrade for wildfire smoke? A properly sized 4 inch MERV 13 media cabinet on the return, run with the fan in circulate mode during smoke events. It’s inexpensive, it doesn’t strangle airflow the way a one inch MERV 13 does and it removes the fine particulate that causes the headaches and sore throats.
Will a better filter hurt my system? Only if it’s the wrong kind. High MERV one inch filters restrict airflow badly. A deep media cabinet gives you the same filtration with far lower pressure drop. We measure static pressure before and after so it’s not a guess.
Do I need a dehumidifier in Western Washington? Sometimes. Winter indoor humidity above 55 60% in a home with crawlspace moisture or a finished basement causes condensation, musty odors and mold. We measure before recommending anything often the real fix is crawlspace vapor barrier and ventilation, not equipment.
How often should I change my filter? One inch filters: every 30 90 days. Four inch media: every 6 12 months. If you have pets or run the fan continuously, shorten it.
Are UV lights worth it? For keeping the evaporator coil and drain pan clean, yes that’s a documented, mechanical benefit. Claims about whole house air sterilization are overstated. We’ll tell you which one you’re buying.
What about ventilation in a new or tightly sealed home? Washington’s energy code requires whole house ventilation in new construction for good reason. An ERV brings in filtered outdoor air while recovering most of the heat, so you get fresh air without the energy penalty.
Does duct cleaning help? Occasionally after construction, a rodent problem, or a fire. As a routine service it’s oversold. Sealing leaky ducts and improving filtration delivers far more measurable benefit.

What Indoor Air Quality Customers Say
“GreenFlow set up a schedule, kept to the schedule, kept us up to date, installed all equipment (heat pump, furnace, and air purifier), tested to make sure operational, provided contact information in case we needed anything, and made sure we knew how to operate the new system.”
Darryl Gray · Whole home install with air purifier
“We recently had Greenflow do what was supposed to be a simple maintenance on our furnace. But because we hadn’t done one in quite a while, the neglect showed. Nathan took his time, and painstakingly took everything apart, cleaned years of dust, pet hair, you name it, and made it as good as he could.”
Debby House · Deep cleaning, dust + pet hair
“Nathan and the team at Greenflow are true professionals. His knowledge of hvac systems is top tier and he will leave you with a reliable system, installed the right way, so you know it will last.”
Jesse Carlton · System reliability
