Air Conditioning Installation & Repair in Tacoma, WA
Cool comfort, done right. Call or text 253 370 8641.
For decades most South Sound homes were built without cooling. That assumption no longer holds recent summers have delivered multi day heat events well into the 90s, and second floor bedrooms in Tacoma, Puyallup, and Lakewood get unlivable. GreenFlow installs air conditioning that’s correctly sized, quiet, and matched to the ductwork you actually have.
Why Add Air Conditioning
- Real relief when it counts. Reliable cooling during the July and August heat events that our housing stock wasn’t designed for.
- Efficiency. Today’s systems cool more using less power, which keeps summer electric bills in check.
- Better air. AC dehumidifies as a byproduct of cooling, and many systems include a dedicated dry mode. Paired with upgraded filtration it also helps during wildfire smoke season.
- Quiet operation. Modern variable speed condensers are dramatically quieter than the units they replace it matters on a small Tacoma lot.
- Professional sizing and installation. Improperly sized or installed AC can waste up to 30% more energy and still fail to cool evenly.
Your Cooling Options
Central Air Conditioning
An outdoor condenser paired with an indoor evaporator coil on your existing furnace or air handler, distributing cool air through your ducts. The straightforward choice for homes with usable ductwork. Efficiency is rated in SEER2 we’ll walk you through where the payback stops making sense.
Heat Pump (Cooling Plus Heating)
Mechanically similar to an AC, but it also heats. If your furnace is aging, a heat pump often costs only slightly more than a straight AC and cuts your winter bills too. It’s the option we recommend most often.
Ductless Mini Splits
No ducts, no problem. Ductless systems cool specific rooms upstairs bedrooms, additions, converted garages, ADUs without touching the rest of the house.
What’s Included
- Free expert consultation to understand your comfort needs and assess the home.
- Load calculation and duct evaluation. Many older homes have return ducts too small for cooling airflow. We measure static pressure and tell you before, not after.
- Precision installation. Proper line set sizing, nitrogen purge while brazing, deep vacuum, charge verified by weight and subcooling, level pad, and a condensate plan that won’t flood a closet.
- Post installation support. System checks, maintenance guidance, and availability for questions.
Our Approach
At GreenFlow Heating & Cooling, we don’t rush quality comes first. Each installation is planned carefully, executed with precision, and finished only when the system meets our standards. We prioritize integrity, clarity, and communication throughout.
Typical Timeline
Adding AC to an existing furnace is typically a one day install. A full system replacement with new coil and line set runs one to two days. Multi zone ductless projects take two to three days. Summer is our busiest season book spring for shorter lead times.
Warranty
Ten year manufacturer parts warranty with registration, plus our 2 year workmanship guarantee. Annual maintenance keeps the warranty valid; our membership plan handles the scheduling for you.

Air Conditioning FAQs
How much does AC installation cost? It depends on tonnage, efficiency tier, and whether your ductwork and electrical panel can support the system as is. We quote fixed prices after an in home evaluation, and we show you at least two options rather than one take it or leave it number.
Can I add AC to my existing furnace? Usually yes, as long as the furnace blower can move enough air and there’s space for an evaporator coil above it. We check blower capacity and static pressure first adding a condenser to undersized ductwork is the most common mistake we’re called out to fix.
What size AC do I need? Roughly one ton per 600 800 sq ft in our climate, but that’s a starting point, not an answer. West facing glass, attic insulation, and duct leakage change it substantially. Oversized systems cool fast, shut off, and leave the house clammy.
How long does the install take? One day in most homes. We protect floors, keep the work area clean, and walk you through the thermostat before we leave.
Do I need a permit for AC in Tacoma? Yes. A mechanical permit is required, and new outdoor units also need an electrical permit for the disconnect and circuit. We handle both.
How loud is a new system? Quiet enough that most customers ask if it’s running. Premium variable speed condensers run in the mid 50 dB range at low stage, roughly the level of a refrigerator across the room.
Will AC help with wildfire smoke? Cooling itself doesn’t filter smoke, but running the system with an upgraded MERV 13 media filter and keeping windows closed makes a real difference. See our indoor air quality page.

What Our Customers Say
“the owner and GreenFlow are the GOAT. We were renovating our home and I met with countless HVAC installers. Only the owner was genuinely excited to creatively problem solve for the challenges our house presented. We didn’t get some cookie cutter system… Our inspector said it was one of the nicest residential installs he had seen.”
David Sosnow
“the owner was incredibly thorough in helping us choose the right HVAC system for our home… We ended up with a whole house heat pump that’s been working perfectly. The owner also walked us through how to use it efficiently and followed up afterward. The warranty he provided was excellent too.”

Commercial Cooling Systems
Cooling a commercial building is a different problem than a home — RTUs, VRF, split systems, and rooftop packages all require load calcs and mechanical design. See our commercial HVAC page for AC design and install for offices, retail, restaurants, and warehouses.
